Telemarketing Boosts Biz Mags

MarketingProfs Daily Fix recently posted on how Top Biz Mags Rely on Telemarketing, summarizing the results of research completed by IQ Resource in May.

IQR collected and analyzed data from BPA audited titles in the USA, covering over 1,200 controlled-circulation titles with a total circulation of over 34 million, and discovered that an overwhelming number of subscribers were obtained through telemarketing efforts.

The top 10 SRDS categories with the highest percentage of subscribers acquired by telemarketing are:

Fitness Professional – 83 percent
Industrial Automation – 81 percent
Chain Stores – 80 percent
Packaging (users) – 80 percent
Manufacturing/Industries, Equipment – 80 percent
Restaurant & Food Service – 71 percent
Bioprocess International – 70 percent
Glass – 68 percent
Control & Instrumentation Systems – 67 percent
Product Design Engineering – 66 percent
Plant Engineering, Maintenance, Repair and Operations – 66 percent

Looking at the top 50 trade titles ranked by circulation, IQR found that 23% of their circulation was acquired through telemarketing, while the top 50 publishers* acquired 42% of their subscribers by telemarketing.

On the higher end of the scale, there were six titles that acquired 90 percent or more by telemarketing; 43 titles with 80 percent or more, and 66 titles with 70 percent or more.

Obviously, telemarketing is an effective way to reach potential subscribers. But of course, as an industry-leading telemarketing lists broker, we already knew that. IQR’s research into these very specialized publications simply reinforces the acknowledged importance of accurate & targeted data — in a time of rising costs for call centers everywhere, making sure you’re addressing your message to the right audience will improve your chance at success.
*Health care titles are audited differently and so were not included in the analysis.
